چکیده
This paper reviews the standardization work that has been done in question 2 of ITU-T study group 15, which is the lead group on optical access transport technology. The major topics covered are the progress in the G-PON series and the new point-to-point fiber access recommendation. Finally, a brief view of the future plan of XG-PON is presented. key words: ITU-T, optical, fiber, PON, access

Development of optical transmission module for access networks
Alongside the spread of the Internet in recent years, high-speed data transmission services for subscriber networks (access networks) have taken root in a real way. This has been accompanied by a growth in fibre-optic communications networks. Fig. 1 illustrates an optical communications network. The core DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) optical network is connected to LANs (Local A...

In this paper we present an in-depth review on the trends and the directions taken by the researchers worldwide in Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) systems. We highlight those trends and features that are believed to be essential to the successful introduction of various OCDMA techniques in communication systems and data networks in near future. In particular we begin by giving a c...

This article reviews international standardization activities on optical interfaces over the last four years. Standardization is the key to the cost-effective manufacture, purchase, and installation of largecapacity high-speed optical network elements. This article mainly focuses on the activities related to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) interfaces in ITU-T (International Telecommunica...
متن کاملInvestigation of Differently Modulated Optical Signals Transmission in HDWDM Systems
The authors’ developed combined system model can be considered under the concept of next generation optical network (NGON) as a model for the future design of backbone networks. Such solution can be topical in the result of different telecom operators’ optical networks convergence. In this case a necessity to transmit differently modulated signals over a single optical fiber even with different...
متن کاملNext Generation Optical Access Network: Standardization Outline and Key Technologies for Co-existence with Legacy Systems
Users are increasingly demanding broadband services, and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) is the main technology to answer these demands. Gigabit-class passive optical network (PON) systems, IEEE802.3ah GE-PON [1] or ITU-T G.984 G-PON [2] have been widely deployed and used by many network operators. The number of FTTH users in Asia is increasing and has exceeded 30 million [3]. Especially in Japan the ...
